Friday 23rd March, 2007 (IANS)

Japanese automaker Toyota Friday announced the opening of a technical training institute near India's IT hub Bangalore to provide training in automotive technology to those students who cannot afford higher education.

Named Toyota Technical Training Institute (TTTI), it will act as a platform to impart training on acquiring special manufacturing skills, which is called 'Monozukuri' in Japanese.

'This institute will not only provide a high standard of education and training in automotive technology but also provide students employment opportunities,' Atsushi Toyoshima, managing director, Toyota Kirloskar India Pvt. Ltd, said in a statement.

The institute will receive its first batch of students in August and about 60 students from Karnataka will be selected for the three-year course. The candidates should have passed Class 10.

The TTTI will offer students four courses - in Automobile Assembly, Automobile Paint, Automobile Weld and Mechatronics (a combination of mechanical and industrial electronics).

It will also impart practical training at the Toyota-Kirloskar Plant to give students a better understanding of Toyota's production system. Students will be given fellowships to promote excellence within the institute.

'We hope that these bright young minds will be able to lead the strengthening of Toyota Production System at the plant. Good people make good products,' added Toyoshima.
