Sports Minister Ajay Maken Monday congratulated India's tennis veteran Leander Paes for winning his maiden men's doubles title at the Australian Open and hoped that his good form gets India a medal at the London Olympics.

"I would like to congratulate Leander Paes on another remarkable achievement. He is one of the finest tennis players India have produced. We would want him to perform even better in the coming months and peak by winning another medal at the Olympics," Maken told reporters here on the sidelines of a felicitation ceremony organised for the 200 volunteers who took part in the Republic Day parade.

Paes, 38, has given the country its only Olympic medal in tennis by winning a bronze at the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

Paes won his seventh men's doubles Grand Slam title with Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek at Melbourne Park Saturday and reached the finals of the mixed doubles event with Russia's Elena Vesnina. He also has won six major crowns in mixed doubles.
