Qatar Airways orders 5 new A380s at Dubai Air Show
Calcutta News.Net Tuesday 15th November, 2011
Qatar Airways is reportedly in talks with Airbus to double its order for the new A380, the world's largest airliner, in a deal worth US $1.9 billion.
Reports of the new deal emerged Tuesday at the Dubai Air Show, coming on the heels of a record-breaking deal between Dubai-based Emirates Airlines for 100 Boeing 777s in a deal worth US $18 billion.
Qatar Airways placed their order for five additional superjumbos alongside a US $4.5 billion order of 50 A320 neos, the revamped version of Airbus' smallest long range aircraft.
Airbus has predicted that demand for their revamped A320, the European company's answer to the new Boeing 787, could push the company even higher than its target of 1,500 orders in 2011.
The Dubai Air Show has been dominated by the massive rivalry between Boeing and Airbus.
Airbus has surpassed Boeing in terms of deliveries every year since 2003 and has taken more than twice as many orders as Boeing in 2011.
