Germany to lose British troops
Calcutta News.Net Saturday 12th November, 2011
The UK Ministry of Defence will withdraw 1,800 military personnel from Germany in January.
A total pullout of all 20,000 British soldiers from Germany is likely to happen by 2020.
The ministry has announced an immediate troop withdrawal as part of a major cutback in defence spending.
Last year's Strategic Defense and Security Review decreed the military would need to save 250 million pounds a year.
After the review, it was decided to relocate troops.
The British Army had been present in the Rhineland since the end of the Second World War in 1945.
UK bases in Germany have a population of over 43,000, including civilians and their families.
